Nexus 10

Google just handed a massive backhand to the Apple’s Retina Display with their newly announced tablet, the Nexus 10. The 10.1 inch tablet has a remarkable 2560 by 1600 resolution – giving it 300 pixels per inch (that’s quite a few more than the iPad’s 264). And to round things out Google coughed up a 1.7Ghz dual core processor, an ARM Mali-T604 GPU, and Android 4.2 with 2 GB of RAM. This tablet effectively widens the Android reach to mimic what Apple offers running iOS. At $399 for the 16GB model, it’s certainly a major contender at the price point. $399  Buy

Asus Taichi

Asus’ slogan should be, “We’re weird but you love us anyways.”  The Taichi is certainly an interesting concept.  And remarkably, one that made it past the vaporware roadblock.  It’s not just an 11.6” laptop; it’s a dual screen laptop.  Fold down the screen and you’ll find a touch screen planted on the lid.  Maybe it’s just Asus being weird, but it could be the perfect way to get a no-compromises touch screen laptop, without a weak hinge and without needing to reach across a keyboard to use touch gestures.  The $1,299 Taichi is packed with an Intel Core i5-3317U CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU, and will be available in November. iMac Apple Computer

The new iMac is so thin it almost got lost in the midst of the mini-iPad invasion. The updated iMac has 40% less volume than the previous version. Some how the design team shaved off enough beef that the edge of the machine measures 5mm. And sucking out all the bloat didn’t rob the machine of any functionality – standard 1TB hard drives, and 8GB of 1600 MHz memory are still on board, with the choice of a 3rd generation quad-core Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. One complaint users had with the previous generation of iMacs was that the screen had too much glare. If the specs are to be believed – problem solved. The new screens reduce reflection by 75%. $1,299+  Buy

iPad-mini-or-big-hand-guy

The long expected iPad Mini is here at last. And there is a lot to be excited about. First off, it is most definitely mini.  Sporting a 7.9 inch screen with the same aspect ratio of the iPad, it should be just barely larger than a Kindle Fire or any other 7 inch tablet. The dual core A5 chip makes it just as speedy as we’ve grown to expect an iPad to be. And perhaps the best part of the deal might be that you get the remarkable app ecosystem of the iPad in a size that some of us greatly prefer. The real question is, will the $329 price tag be too steep next to the $200 quad core Nexus 7? Maybe, but hey it’s got an Apple on the back. $329+   Buy

bond 50 blu-ray

The set is a time capsule of sorts chronicling  the cars, fashion, and cinematic styles of the last 50 years. Chances are by the time you’ve watched them all, the set will be obsolete (Skyfall will be released on November 9th 2012). But how often do you get to celebrate the 5oth birthday of the world’s greatest spy? (Amazon Affiliate Link) $184  Pre-Order
